But here is what I have now....
Assignment 1: Was to learn the basics and fundamentals of Grasshopper. This is something I really took the simpler side of to understand more of the key components that were being used in the GH algorithms.
In this project I was inspired by the idea of board games. Something that has become increasingly more popular in my household with my kids. I began by creating 3 closed cylinder and placing them above one another with an equal amount of distance in between them. I then drew circles starting larger at the base than the top would be and used the loft command. I was looking for something that resembled an hour glass figure but with a twist to it. An object that is used when we play games like jumanji or chess in my case. Although the kids use it more in jumanji for time challenges. I thought that as much as this would be a simple object it would establish an understanding for what we were doing with this assignment and in the same breath it would look unique as a laser cut and joined model when I was done. I will be combining the use of my 3d printer for the base supports as well which should look cool in the end in having multiple materials within it.
This the grasshopper programming I created to do this simple flow and rotate. I had tried to avoid doing these uploads from my Mac but will have to suffer through it for the time being. Although kind of rocky I have the deeper understanding of what I did to achieve this now.
I did run into difficulties with the flow and rotate. I found recreating the parameters to be easy but had overlooked my list item object in grasshopper, after switching the list items start and end from the deconstruct domain to the faces I had wanted for this to flow and rotate through it did work successfully the way I intended it to. Although seeing how different faces being selected affected the model and how it was stacked was cool in its own way and I think these simple commands are very useful in an artistic and even industrial or utilitarian view point.
Hi Everyone,
So I would like to begin with the basics here and a very quick introduction. My name is Casper or Dylan. I respond to both so refer to me by either of those names and we will be golden! This is not my first time in OBDF 310; last time I was juggling too much and absolutely bombed the course. After a great amount of time beating myself up as we all do in those lovely moments of life I am back to take another shot at it.
Inherently I have always claimed to not be good with anything to do with computers and for that reason combined with my previous experience. I am here to firmly grasp the basics of what is possible with parameters in Grasshopper. So that being said I do not expect and you should not expect that I know more than any of you, nor will I be much help to anyone..... Well except for myself, and a couple other people, none of whom you know. Rant over....
After going through the basic tutorials provided by David Rutton on how to use Grasshopper with Rhino. I decided to lean into this idea of these fun coloured tent like structures we see here. This came about after using the gradients to provide visual data of the height of the bi-arcs we were told to create in the first 8 lessons provided by David. After having done that I added planar surfaces to them and rewired the gradients through the planar surfaces. I only had a few thoughts while doing this.
A) This simple program that covers the basics reminds me of the architecture we now see in many areas of our city or a lot in festivals and carnivals
B) This would be amazing to take my kids skateboarding, biking or rollerblading underneath it.
C) These look also like amoebas that are funky-coloured and groovy. (No I'm not from or in the/my 60's.... and yes I just described it as groovy and funky.)
and most importantly....
D) I think I have a firm understanding of what I was actually doing and not just faking it until I make it this time around. Still a lil unsure but my questions from doing this will be much more specific and I hope that some part of this. Whether it be my personable writing style or the rendered images makes somebodies day, a bit more colourful or bright and cheery.
Anyways, until next time..... Namaste!
